Jaya Jaya Shankara Hara Hara Shankara !!
On this auspicious Sri MahaSwamigal’s Jayanthi day, KKSF Midwest Chapter is pleased to report successful completion of first-ever Shankara Jayanthi celebrations under its auspices, held last Saturday 5/22 at Chinmaya Mission. The day-long function was very well-attended, with devotees from India, Canada and Chicagoland area.
A 3-volume DVD set covering Sri MahaRudram’2009 was released and first copy for Sri Periyavaa and Sri Matam was presented to Prof Sridhar who will be visiting Sri Matam in June. Copies were presented to Sri Chandrasekhara Gurukkul, Sri Yagneswhara Dikshitar and Sri Krishna Sastri, who traveled all the way from Toronto to participate in the function. We are thankful to the team for their help with video and photo coverage, painful editing, review and publication of content to its present DVD form. Without their commitment and dedication, this project would not have been possible. DVD copies are available for a nominal donation, please contact Sri Cuddalore Kumar or V.Sethuraman.
Nrithya and Sangeetham offerings by Shobana Gopalakrishnan, Janani Ganesh, followed by short speeches on life and contributions of Sri Adi Shankara by Sri Gurukkul and Sri Dikshitar, were presented during the morning part of the program, ending with Harathi and Prasada Viniyogam
Following a traditional but delicious lunch fully prepared by our Kitchen Volunteers Team, we re-grouped to hear Shloka recitation by children who were presented with various copies of books on Hinduism and Sri MahaPeriyavaa’s teachings, followed by short speeches in conversational Sanskrit on Sri Adi Shankara by Sri Viswabharathy, Smt Maragatham Mani and Sri Gurukkul. We were then treated to a dance performance by Sow Vidya Viswabharathy and a music performance by Sow Janani Ganesh. Following Siva Sahasranama chanting, a wonderful decked “pallaki”, fully hand-crafted by Sri Bala and containing the picture of Sri Adi Shankara was carried around the complex to accompaniment of Vedic chanting. The function ended with singing of Maithreem Bhajatha and Maha Mangala Harathi and prasada distribution.
We are thankful to our priests, various participants, devotees and volunteers for their support and making this function possible. We are grateful to Chinmaya Mission for allowing us to use their facilities, to members of the Kitchen Team for all the prasadam arrangements and delicious food serverd during the function.
